After 10 years of CLA lobbying, three elections and four energy policies, at last future is bright for woodfuel

After 10 years of CLA lobbying, three elections and four energy policies, at last future is bright for woodfuel

More than 10 years of lobbying has finally paid off for the CLA as details of the Government's Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) were announced today (10 March).

The Association has long been arguing to secure heat from renewable resources, showing the Government the role that woodlands could play in securing sustainable, renewable and reliable energy.

CLA President William Worsley said: "Today's announcement is great news and a victory for the CLA's long-term thinking and lobbying.

"The Renewable Heat Incentive is very close to the scheme we advised the previous Government to put into operation. Coupled with the Coalition's backing of £860million from the Comprehensive Spending Review, the rural economy will reap huge benefits from the RHI."

He added: "Where piped gas is not available in rural areas, renewable heat displaces carbon intensive fuels such as oil and coal. It helps drive sustainable woodland management where markets deliver woodfuel in a process that enriches biodiversity and contributes to rural employment and income.
