The CLA's 'Not the Election' Manifesto

The CLA's 'Not the Election' Manifesto In response to the Prime Minster's announcement on Saturday 6 October that there would be no General Election in November the CLA, the rural economy experts, has laid out the five key issues it would have pushed to all parties had an autumn election gone ahead.

5 Key Points

  1. Planning: For sustainable development in rural areas to be achieved by all rural businesses, a positive and flexible planning system that actively promotes sustainable economic development, communities and environment is essential. This includes the provision of affordable rural housing through public and private partnerships.
  2. Food and Environmental Security: We need a government that will play a constructive role in ensuring there is sufficient EU budget to fund the measures necessary for European Food and Environmental Security.  A reduction in red tape and regulation needs to be part of this process to prevent the stifling of agricultural productivity and leave us unable to rise to the challenge of food production for the global market of the future.
  3. Property rights: Confirmation that the property rights of individuals are secure faced with the current Coastal Access proposals.
  4. Climate Change: Ways of rewarding land managers for the contribution they make to combating climate change and the effect of climate change.
  5. Animal Diseases: A proper policy for the control of animal diseases, including Foot and Mouth, Bluetongue, and Bovine TB.
