UK is focal point of biogas research says CLAThe CLA (Country Land and Business Association) is helping to organise a high- level green conference on 17 April. Specially invited delegates from the UK and around the globe will flock to a pioneering Biodigester plant in Ludlow to share the latest on biogas research with the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Oliver Harwood, Chief Surveyor of the CLA and a director of Task 37 UK, a body set up with support from the CLA to promote the latest biogas technology across the UK, said: "This conference is vital in sharing knowledge and learning how to harness biogas effectively.
"The CLA is a strong and committed supporter of biodigester technology. We want this conference to help ensure UK businesses have access to the latest research and development from around the world, so members who invest in biogas get the best available technology."
The Biodigester facility, located at Ludlow in the West Midlands is demonstration plant supported by both Defra and Advantage West Midlands, the regional development agency and was completed by Greenfinch in 2007.
The plant processes local food waste and then converts the green waste to biogas. This contains 60 percent methane which it harnesses to produce energy in the form of renewable electricity and hot water. It supplies a significant proportion of the town's electricity needs, and recharges the electric food waste collection vehicle which services the plant.
