Top debates lead The CLA Game Fair showcase

Top debates lead The CLA Game Fair showcase The CLA Game Fair at Belvoir Castle will provide the best of rural debates from Friday, 24 July to Sunday, 26 July.

The event is the largest of its kind in the world and showcases country pursuits ranging from fishing and shooting to food and equestrianism as well as bringing together leading politicians from all the major parties to debate the big issues.

The two top debates in the CLA Game Fair Theatre will be on The CLA Rural Manifesto, chaired by CLA President Henry Aubrey-Fletcher and Re-wilding, chaired by CLA Deputy President William Worsley. Other debates include food security and forestry.

CLA President Henry Aubrey-Fletcher said: "The CLA Game Fair has to be seen to be believed. All aspects of the countryside are brought together for a spectacular three day event. It must be the only place where you can hear top politicians debating serious rural issues one minute and find yourself watching a fly fishing demonstration the next.

"Our main debates this year will provide stimulating food for thought for the main political parties as well as the public who are welcome to ask questions from the floor. The CLA Rural Manifesto (on Friday, 24 July, from 10am) will lay out our vision for the rural economy in the run-up to the next general election whereas the Re-wilding debate (on Saturday, 25 July, from 10am) will look at the controversial issue of species reintroduction to the countryside.

"If the debates represent the more serious issues facing the countryside then many of the stalls provide light-hearted fun with fascinating insights into the countryside at work and at leisure."

The CLA President added: "We will also be highlighting the problem of rural broadband 'not-spots' through our Staying in Touch campaign near the CLA Members' Enclosure."
