CLA launches Rural Buildings Award Scheme The CLA and Knight Frank have today announced (Monday 12 February) a new award scheme to find the best rural buildings across England and Wales. The CLA Rural Buildings Awards – in association with Knight Frank – is one of the CLA's Centenary initiatives and aims to showcase the very best new or converted rural buildings that reflect not only a wide range of diversification projects, but also high quality design and workmanship. These can be anything from affordable housing, holiday accommodation, business units, farm shops, restaurants, traditional farm buildings, sporting facilities or tourism projects. David Fursdon, CLA President said: "We should be proud of the way in which the new built heritage of our countryside is evolving, stimulated by diversification. This scheme highlights this and shows the forward thinking nature of rural businesses. Quite often they are at the cutting edge of design but balance that with an understanding of the importance of their environment." Sandy Douglas, Head of Knight Frank Rural Consultancy, said: "There has been a beneficial shift in the use of rural buildings, providing diversified revenue for the landowner, new uses for old and often these important buildings contribute to the community. This trend will continue which is why we are pleased to be involved in the project with the CLA. "As well as looking for good design the judges will take into account projects which fit in with their environment, benefit the local community and have considered energy efficiency." Winners will be announced in November 2007 and will receive a commemorative plaque and certificates at an award ceremony in London in December 2007. Deadline for entries 30 April 2007. Please note that whilst the advisers are able to advise on a wide range of subjects relating to land ownership, they cannot act in place of a member's own solicitor, accountant, surveyor and tax specialist by, for example, drafting documents or corresponding on their behalf and may be precluded, by the rules of their own professions, from advising one CLA member against another CLA member in the case of conflict.
Solicitors Indemnity Fund . Solicitors in the CLA Legal Team are not covered by the Solicitors Indemnity Fund in relation to professional negligence in relation to any advice given by them.
