CLA member appointed to Animal Health and Welfare Board CLA member Mark Tufnell has been appointed as a non-executive to the Animal Health and Welfare Board for England. Mr Tufnell has been a CLA South West member for more than 20 years and chairs several CLA bodies including the Business and Rural Economy Sub-Committee, as well as running his family farm in Gloucestershire.
CLA President William Worsley said: "I would like to congratulate Mark on his appointment to this important role. He is a very experienced farmer and I know he will make a terrific contribution to the Board's work.
"UK farming has fought against appalling animal diseases such as Foot and Mouth and bovine TB for far too long. This Board offers real industry influence on how animal health and welfare policy is made and implemented. Mark is perfectly placed to provide expert external advice to help make a better job of dealing with outbreaks of animal disease and keeping it out of England."
Mark Tufnell farms 1,875 acres of mainly arable with a sheep flock in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is passionate about conservation.
He recently won the category for Best Arable Farm in the Gloucestershire Food and Farming Awards, with the judges commending him on the way he looked after wildlife on his farm while running an efficient and professional arable enterprise. They particularly noted that Mark is a champion of the grey partridge.
He is a former Cabinet Member for the Environment and Communities at Cotswold District Council and was previously a Secretary of State nominee on the Cotswolds Conservation Board.
