HRH brings light-hearted touch to The CLA Game Fair His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh joked and chatted his way around the 50th anniversary CLA Game Fair at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, on Saturday (26 July) before presenting long service awards to a dozen gamekeepers and receiving an award for his own outstanding contribution to the countryside. The Duke started his tour around a packed CLA Game Fair with a visit to the CLA's Just Ask campaign where he heard how the organisation was working to persuade people not to buy food without asking where it came from. In the regional food village he chatted to garlic producers, Welsh pasty makers and lemonade makers – suggesting to CLA Game Fair host, The Duke of Marlborough, that he should try growing his own lemons. In the fishing village – the UK's largest outdoor angling exhibition – HRH met representatives of the Salmon and Trout Association before watching a series of casting demonstrations on the River Glyme. During a relaxed visit, the Duke chatted to members of the public and exhibitors. He met the Great Britain Clay Pigeon shooting team and visited the CLA's Exploring Nature area as well as presenting CLA long service awards to 13 gamekeepers who between them had clocked up more than 600 years service to the countryside. He presented The CLA Long Service Awards to one of his own keepers, David Clark, who works on the Sandringham Estate, to John Stonebridge, a keeper for The Duke of Marlborough at Blenheim and to CLA President Henry Aubrey-Fletcher's gamekeeper, Christopher Humphrey. CLA President Henry Aubrey-Fletcher said: "It was my pleasure to welcome His Royal Highness to the Show grounds this morning. He knows exactly how the countryside works and has an enormous appreciation for it which is clear when you talk to him. He understands the current problems facing farmers today as he is a farmer himself." Henry Aubrey-Fletcher and Vincent Hedley-Lewis, Chairman of The Game Fair Board, presented The Duke of Edinburgh with The CLA Game Fair Contribution to the Countryside today.
