CLA lobbying secures right of appeal on coastal access The CLA was today (2 June) delighted by the decision made by the Government late last night to put a right of appeal into the Marine and Coastal Access Bill. The amendment means that coastal landowners will be able appeal against the right to roam being imposed on their land.
CLA President Henry Aubrey-Fletcher said: "This is a huge win for the CLA and I am delighted the Government has finally accepted that coastal landowners are entitled to protection under the Human Rights Act.
"The CLA was the first organisation to argue for an independent right of appeal and our lengthy battle won over three parliamentary committees and politicians from all parties.
"The Human Rights Committee specifically endorsed the amendment drafted by the CLA in tandem with the Conservative Front Bench."
The CLA President added: "This Bill is still far from perfect and the CLA will be working with its allies in the House of Commons to secure further improvements to make sure the interests of landowners are protected."
