‘Greenest Government ever’ must support Farming Futures, says CLA

The CLA said today it was "delighted" that Farming Futures won a Global Green Award and called for Defra to demonstrate its part in the "greenest Government ever" by continuing to support the project to help the fight against the effects of climate change.

Farming Futures, the communications project that offers farmers and land managers practical advice on adapting to climate change, won the 2010 Global Green Award for Creativity in Sustainability. The honour came in the wake of Defra revealing it is to withdraw funding for the project after March next year in light of current spending cuts.

CLA President William Worsley said: "The CLA, with other industry organisations, has worked to ensure Farming Futures is successful at delivering much-needed information about new green technologies and new green business opportunities.

"I am delighted this award went to the Farming Futures team. We are very proud of all the hard work that has gone into the project, and this award reiterates that farmers have an important role in helping to mitigate climate change."
