Welcome to the CLA Members' area

As the premier organisation safeguarding the interests of those responsible for land, property and business throughout rural England and Wales, this page shows how the CLA membership can help you and how to find it.

Mailings

Members receive the monthly CLA magazine Land & Business and regular enews mailings. Make sure your regional office has your current postal and email addresses.


Leadership

CLA’s in-house experts work on a day-to-day basis with members.

Through their extensive experience provide the leadership in their respective areas to influence decision makers to protect the rights of those responsible for rural land, property and business.


Policy

The CLA provides members with an influential voice with decision makers lobbying Government at local, national and European level.


Regional teams

Every CLA member has a regional team to provide the first point of contact in seeking information or advice on problems and queries.

They are supported by dedicated professional advisers who lobby regionally and provide local information.

For advice, members should contact their regional office in the first instance quoting their membership number.


Advice

The CLA retains its own in-house professional advisory team which includes barristers, tax specialists, planning experts and surveyors who provide unlimited, independent and impartial information on a wide range of issues. This is only a phone call or email away and free to eligible members.


Networks

Events - Members are able to access the most informed and experienced network of land owners and rural businesses in England and Wales through a comprehensive programme of events including business and professional seminars, training courses, advisory clinics and social functions, as well as local agricultural shows and sporting fixtures.

CLA London Branch – as a CLA Member you have the opportunity to join a select group of people who spend a good deal of their time in London but have strong rural connections, either business or social.

London Branch provides a programme of topical speakers and themes at central London locations. London Branch is available to CLA Members only, regardless of where you live.

The CLA Business Directory - The CLA Business Directory is an essential guide to rural businesses. The printed Directory is circulated free to all CLA members throughout England and Wales in April each year. Advertising is exclusively available to CLA members, there are more than 200 business classifications plus an online version which is free and fully searchable.

The CLA Game Fair - Members are entitled to free and discounted tickets and enclosure passes to the annual CLA Game Fair (according to subscription). Details are available in April preceding the Game Fair.

Advertising opportunities – members receive preferential rates when advertising in Land & Business magazine.


CLA Insurance Services

CLA Insurance Services aim to represent and support the interests of rural land and business owners. The range of products include CLA Land, CLA Business, CLA Home and CLA Motor and free quotations are given over the phone.


CLA Member Services

As a CLA Member you have access to a wide range of services specially negotiated with partners to save you time and money.

In addition to insurance, these include healthcare, leisure, motoring and utilities amongst others. In many cases, these savings can more than cover the cost of your subscription.


CLA Charitable Trust

The CLA Charitable Trust was founded by CLA members to help disabled or disadvantaged people by encouraging education about the countryside and providing facilities for those who are disabled or disadvantaged.

In the event of any advice given by any CLA staff adviser being given negligently or otherwise being incorrect no liability whatsoever is accepted by the CLA or its officers or by its staff advisers concerned

(a) towards any person who is not the current CLA member to whom the advice was directly given,

(b) to any person in the respect of consequential loss or loss of profits, or

(c) to any person for any sum exceeding £50,000 in respect of any one enquiry (whether made or responded to orally or in writing and whether dealt with at one time or over a period of time).

Any person making use of the Advisory Services accepts such restrictions. Members should refer to appropriate professional advisers in private practice before taking any particular course of action potentially or actually involving any substantial amounts of money.

Please note that whilst the advisers are able to advise on a wide range of subjects relating to land ownership, they cannot act in place of a member's own solicitor, accountant, surveyor and tax specialist by, for example, drafting documents or corresponding on their behalf and may be precluded, by the rules of their own professions, from advising one CLA member against another CLA member in the case of conflict.

Solicitors Indemnity Fund . Solicitors in the CLA Legal Team are not covered by the Solicitors Indemnity Fund in relation to professional negligence in relation to any advice given by them.
