Estate tour focuses on farmland birds

Farmers and landowners wanting to find out how to manage their land to encourage farmland birds are being invited to attend a free event at the Escrick Park estate near Selby.

Organised by the Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE), the event on Tuesday 6 December will include a guided tour of the award-winning estate and a range of expert presentations from organisations such as Kings game cover and conservation crops, the RSPB and Game Wildlife Conservation Trust.

Escrick Park is a former winner of the prestigious Anders Wall Award, presented in recognition of the estate's efforts to improve the rural environment. It has implemented a number of measures to help farmland birds which will be discussed as part of the tour.

CFE Regional Co-ordinator Fraser Hugill said: "We have lined up a number of leading experts to speak about the best way of managing land for farmland birds and particularly grey partridge.

"The event will also look at growing game cover crops and how adopting CFE measures can work as part of a commercial farm business."

Charles Forbes Adam owner of Escrick Park estate said "The CFE is an opportunity farmers and landowners must grasp now to demonstrate our industry can deliver a healthy environment as part of a commercial businesses without the need for further regulation."

CFE is supported by organisations from across the industry including the CLA and NFU. It aims to pull together the huge amount of work that farmers and land managers already do to encourage wildlife, to benefit soil and water resources and support farmland birds. It promotes existing stewardship schemes and encourages voluntary management that will benefit the environment, whilst ensuring efficient and profitable food production.

To book a place at the event, please contact Fraser at: fraser.hugill@cfeonline.org.uk or telephone or text: 07502 425266 by Friday 2 December.
