CLA Yorkshire

Protecting Your Interests in Yorkshire

In January 1907 the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) was born here in Yorkshire with the inaugural meeting of the Yorkshire Land and Property Defence Association at York's Station Hotel.

One hundred years, 10 changes of Government and 18 Prime Ministers later, Yorkshire continues to represent the interests of its 3,500 members, whose livelihoods depend on the local rural economy.

Although much has changed during the last century, the CLA has consistently remained the sole champion of land owners and managers in the corridors of power at both a national and regional level.

Heading up the Yorkshire team is Regional Director, Dorothy Fairburn, who has a lifetime's experience in rural affairs. Born and bred in the heart of the North York Moors, she worked for high profile organisations including Savills and the National Trust prior to joining the Yorkshire CLA team in 1998.

Dorothy is an influential member of the Yorkshire rural business community and, along with other team members, plays an active role in many key committees and steering groups including the Environment Agency, English Heritage, Business Link and the Government office for Yorkshire and the Humber.

Every week the team responds to dozens of calls from members helping to solve a variety of issues from how to access Government funding right through to planning application queries and rights of way legislation.

In addition to this free personal consultancy, members also benefit from:

  • Access to a wide range of services including insurance, travel, financial, healthcare and leisure
  • FREE subscription to the monthly CLA Country Landowner magazine
  • FREE subscription to the Yorkshire CLA newsletter and E-news bulletin
  • FREE tickets to the annual CLA Game Fair
  • FREE listing in the national CLA Business Directory
