West Midlands rural watchdog, the CLA, says it's vital that the importance of local food is recognised – and that is why it is backing the latest good food guide from the National Forest.
The National Forest Food Guide lists where to buy great local food, with details of producers and stockists of everything from meat to mushrooms, beer to bread and cakes to cheese.
It is compiled by local food expert Barry Smith: "I decided to collate the Guide when I found how difficult it was to find out about all the very good produce I knew was out there! The list makes it easier for both residents and visitors to the area to enjoy the wonderful selection of food and drink that we have here.
"But the Guide will never be finished - it's constantly growing as I discover great new suppliers in the area, or new outlets for our local food, so feedback is always welcomed to keep it bang up to date."
Caroline Bedell, CLA West Midlands Director, said: "The CLA wants people to ask where the food on their plate comes from whenever they're out for a meal - whether in a hotel, restaurant, pub or fast food outlet. The latest Food Guide from the National Forest will help increase public awareness of the origin of food to enable people to make an informed choice about the food they eat."
