Wiltshire Police. Of the 125 crimes we have recorded against farms in November, theft of metal (20) was not the highest.
There were 22 recorded burglaries or thefts in which tools and power tools were taken - remember that you can record serial numbers of these items onto "Immobilise" and that this database is checked by police forces nationally.
We have a further 24 incidents which have damage only, be it fences cut, gates smashed, or padlocks cut and nothing believed stolen.
Although we have had few cases of red diesel from farms being stolen, the Tisbury area has had over a dozen heating oil thefts. These have been 1000 litres, 2000 and even 5000 litres, so the vehicle in use is obviously substantial. If anyone has any information in relation to these fuel thefts, then either contact Rural Crime Team as below, or alternatively;
We have had seven quadbikes stolen from farms in November, predominantly from the area Upavon, Marlborough, Swindon. The seventh was fitted with a tracker device, and recovered by police within 24 hours and a male arrested.
Please consider these inexpensive devices on your expensive machinery! They do work! If anyone is unsure about who to speak to in relation to a tracker, call Mark, John or myself and we can point you in the right direction.
It has been another busy month in relation to hare coursing and poaching. This is mainly occurring in the Pewsey Vale and northwards at the moment, and mainly in daylight. Saturday and Sundays each account for a quarter of all reported incidents. We had seven vehicles stopped with 18 arrests last month. Keep the calls coming in please. We will send the nearest available units as our highest response. If it is happening now, call 999 – it is a crime, in progress.
We ran our second Crime Prevention Roadshow in Longbridge Deverill in November and our thanks are due for the use of Rye Hill Barn and to those who attended. We have run these in NE and SW Wiltshire. Your views on running these in SE and NW Wiltshire next April and November would be welcomed.
