Early Investment success for the Swindon and Wiltshire LEP

Early Investment success for the Swindon and Wiltshire LEP

The Local Enterprise Partnership for the Swindon & Wiltshire is celebrating the announcement that £6.2m has been earmarked to help its work in generating economic growth. The news comes only days after a bid to the Regional Growth Fund generated a further £3m to support DTR VMS set up a European support facility in Chippenham.

The latest cash injection comes from the Government's £500m Growing Places Fund which was set up to address infrastructure and site constraints and to promote the delivery of jobs and housing. The intention is to allow Local Enterprise Partnerships to prioritise the infrastructure they need and so helping to deliver their economic strategies. In addition it is hoped to help establish sustainable revolving funds so that funding can be reinvested to unlock further development and leverage private investment.

Paul Johnson and Nicky Alberry, Joint Chairs of the LEP working group, welcomed the news of this tangible acknowledgement by government that the Swindon & Wiltshire LEP is a credible delivery partner for supporting economic growth in this strategic sub-national area and said:

"This is an important announcement, which will help maintain the tremendous momentum we are building up. Following so closely on the Regional Growth Fund decision, it really shows what a central role the Local Enterprise Partnerships play in Government thinking."

"We have until December 20th to identify the projects we believe will deliver best value for money. Work has already started on that process and over the coming weeks we will examine all the options in greater detail."
