Arundell Arms Hotel wins South West Tourism Excellence Award

Arundell Arms Hotel wins South West Tourism Excellence Award

CLA member Adam Fox-Edwards's Arundell Arms Hotel, at Lifton, Devon has beaten off competition from 350 businesses to win the 2011 Best Business Hotel Award from South West Tourism.

The South West Tourism Excellence Awards are the official tourism awards for the region as well as forming the regional heat of the national Visit England awards.

All the entries were subject to a short-listing process and over 100 were visited by a team of 25 judges and mystery shoppers.

The judges said this year's competition was the tightest ever - with the winners separated by fractions in their mystery shopper scores requiring tough decisions from the Judging Panel. The chairman of the judges, Alistair Handyside, said: "These finalists represent the very best of the best tourism businesses in the South West. The visitor economy is crucial to our region and these businesses are an example to all of us, to show what can be achieved in these challenging times."

Mr. Fox-Edwards said that the hotel was already well known for its fishing school, country sports and fine food – but this award recognised the expertise in hosting business meetings and their ability to mee the expectations of their business guests.

"I am thrilled that the hotel has won this award - it is a tremendous achievement and a great reflection on the whole team at the hotel. This year we are celebrating 50 years of my family being at the Arundell Arms and so it is even more rewarding," he said.

The 300 year-old former coaching inn at Lifton, Devon, is now one of the country's leading sporting, country house and business hotels. It has 23 bedrooms, and four meeting rooms and can cater for up to 100 delegates.
