A charity that donated more than £50,000 to countryside causes in 2011 is inviting applications for 2012.

The CLA Charitable Trust provided grants of £52,000 last year to projects aimed at young, disabled or disadvantaged people that promote access to and education about the countryside.

CLA Charitable Trust Director Peter Geldart said: "The Trust provides funding to allow those who would not otherwise be able to learn about the countryside and enjoy its benefits due to a disadvantage."

South West projects that have benefited from CLA Charitable Trust grants include a grant of £10,000 a year to Farms for City Children. The charity, founded by 'Warhorse' author Michael Morpurgo and his wife, Clare, provides holidays in the countryside for disadvantaged young people from urban areas. The £10,000 a year donation agreement by the CLA Charitable Trust will be used to fund three separate one-week stays at one of the charity's centres in Devon, Gloucestershire or Wales.

Grants have also been awarded to The Magdalen Project, Magdalen Farm, Winsham, Somerset; to help fund visits by disabled children to this organic educational farm; to Mr Ian Shears, of Highfield Farm, Clyst Road, Topsham, to help fit out a new training classroom for disabled or disadvantaged young visitors to this educational farm and to Future Roots, at Rylands Farm, near Sherborne, Dorset, for a new polytunnel in the horticulture training area on this care farm.

To apply for a CLA Charitable Trust grant in 2012, apply in writing during January, April, July or October with details of your project to: Peter Geldart, Hopbine Farmhouse, Ossington, Nottinghamshire, NG23 6LJ.

Donations can also be made to the Trust through Mr. Geldart, as well as through covenants, wills and by supporting regional CLA fundraising events.
