Seeking profit from renewablesSome 140 farmers and landowners from across the South East took part in the FiT for Farming Conference at Newbury in Berkshire on November 30. This CLA initiated and supported event was designed for farmers and landowners looking to develop their own renewable energy and heat projects, attracting payments under the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme and the new Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The day included an overview of the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme and Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and covered: the eligible installations and their tariff levels; the choices available; and the advantages and disadvantages of the various different renewable technologies. The rest of the day was set aside for farmers to have their own bespoke schedule of pre-arranged appointments with selected companies experienced in the type of renewable projects they are interested in developing. In addressing the challenge of rising energy costs, CLA Chief Surveyor Oliver Harwood concluded that renewable energy is part of the answer, and highlighted ways in which the CLA has been working on behalf of members to make it profitable. |
