Brilliant BrinsburyBrinsbury Show & Country Fayre 2011 was an even bigger success that last year. More visitors than ever (more than 4,000 confirmed, possibly as many as 5,000) flocked to the annual event on Sunday 8 May — despite a slightly dodgy weather forecast and the closure of Bury Hill.Equine held a variety of demonstrations by students and the showground was packed full of canine activities including the very popular Terrier racing. The Companion Dog Show, organised by Karen Bicknell & Sarah Vincent, raised £140 for Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice, and Additional Support collected £316 for Autism Asperges with their Children's Crafts & White Elephant stalls. There were so many fantastic displays of students' work on show, including Soft Furnishings and Upholstery, Blacksmithing, and Furniture to name but a few. There were demonstrations in Hair & Beauty, Dog Grooming, leadwork, Floristry, and tree climbing. There was a Farmers Market and other market stalls, lots of activities for both adults and children including decorate your own horse shoe, which was extremely popular. Motor Vehicle gave people the opportunity to have a go on the manoeuvrability circuit, which had 140 drivers queuing throughout the day for a go. There were animals at every turn: cows, sheep, horses, dogs, chickens, frogs, rabbits, the list was endless. The tractor and trailer ride around the farm were non-stop with vehicles going all day, Gaye Botting's Heavy Horses Carriage Rides collected approximately £60 for the Working Horses charity and the water wheel was a real crowd puller. Live music from Neil Caws and his brother Keith went down a storm and gave the show a party atmosphere with their tunes by the monkey puzzle tree. There were also demonstrations from the Knockhundred Shuttles Clog Morris Dancers. |
