Grant to link Isle of Wight woodlands extendedJigsaw is a grant to encourage the linking of ancient and native woodlands on the Isle of Wight, and it has been extended to cover the whole island. The objective of Jigsaw is to provide the greatest possible benefit to the red squirrel by linking and extending areas of ancient woodland. While the target areas have been extended, preference will be given to applications within the original target areas. A typical Jigsaw woodland could receive £1800 per hectare for planting native species, plus a further £2000 per hectare if it satisfies the requirements for the Jigsaw grant. On top of this, farmers can receive 15 annual payments for agreeing to maintain the area as woodland for 30 years.
