Independent stamp of approval for software study

A new study comparing KEY accounts software with current industry standard Sage has received independent endorsement from a leading specialist. The comparison report, commissioned by CLA member, Landmark Systems, is the first of its kind to provide a head to head analysis of the strengths and weakness of each system.

Nick Holmes, a partner at leading agricultural accountants Chavereys and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants' Farming Committee, agreed to provide an independent professional review of the study.

He said: "A great deal of work has gone into preparing what I believe is a fair and accurate assessment of the two systems. The report looks closely at functionality in a number of areas and breaks the findings down into very easy to understand summaries.

"I would strongly recommend the report, particularly to the increasing number of rural businesses that have diversified and require touch-of-a-button management reporting, monitoring against budget and tight financial control – all tools which are increasingly important in the current economic climate."

The comparison study provides a comprehensive overview of software installation, security, set-up, data entry, reporting and invoicing. In each category it scrutinises performance and identifies where a particular system has advantages over the other.

The report concludes that the KEY software package has significant advantages for the small family-run business or those with in-house accounting expertise.

Market leader Sage was found to be a stronger performer in areas where stock control is a key requirement.

Landmark MD Nigel Parsons added: "Although Landmark commissioned the study, we have gone to great lengths to ensure its integrity.

"The intention is to provide potential customers with an honest and reliable source of information to aid their decision making.
