Young farmers sought for new TV series 'Playing the field'

The production company 'Monkey Kingdom' is developing a documentary series for Channel 4 about young farmers and young people who are involved in rural enterprise. They are looking for born-and-bred country folk aged 18-30 to feature in this new programme which will feature the real dramas of country life, and the dynamics of living in a close-knit countryside community.

The aim is to find a group of people who live and work in a rural area, and who work hard to stay living in the countryside. The programme will feature the real highs and lows of running farms. They will show both the serious side of farming and the fun there is to be had in the countryside – the hard work and long hours as well as the lively social scene.

'Monkey Kingdom' also makes the popular E4 series Made in Chelsea but it's important to emphasise that this programme will not be the same in terms of content or tone. Like Made in Chelsea, it will be filmed in the same glossy, aspirational way. Rather than a fly-on-the-wall style documentary (which tends to look more rough and ready) they want this series to look beautiful – to demonstrate that there is glamour in the countryside, alongside the hard work.

The programme will be very different to Made in Chelsea in that it has a much stronger documentary air –and a lot more factual content. They are very keen to demonstrate that for many people, a lot is at stake when running a farm. They know that there are huge numbers of young people who are deeply passionate about living in the country, who are immensely proud of where they live. It's certainly not all going to be about struggle however. They want to meet people with strong work ethics and strong social circles – who work hard and play hard.

If you live in the countryside, run your own farm, help to run a farm, or have started up a country business - please get in touch. If you have friends or family that may be interested or fit the bill, please pass this on.  Email 'Monkey Kingdom' on farmers@monkeykingdom.com, call on 0207 749 3132 or message them on their Playing the Field page on Facebook.
