Members visit Riverhill Himalayan GardensMembers enjoyed a colourful day at Riverhill Himalayan Gardens on Wednesday 2 May.Mrs Rogers took members on a special tour within the main house at Riverhill where family artefacts dating back to the family's most famous ancestor, John Rogers the Martyr who died in 1555, to the present day are displayed in all their glory. The house built from Kentish ragstone dates from 1710 with main rooms boasting Jacobean oak panelled interiors, with exquisite William Morris style plaster ceilings. Members were then guided around the gardens by head gardener Guy Chatton. Rare specimen trees, bluebell walks and towering rhododendrons and azaleas were discovered around every twist and turn of the gardens that boast magnificent views across the Weald of Kent. Members were particularly interested in the re-growth of many historic trees following the great storm of 1987 and also the changes that were made following the Channel 4 programme Country House Rescue. The day finished with traditional English tea and scones. Please see our image library for more photos: www.flickr.com/photos/clasoutheast |
