Guidance on how to apply for Leader support under the RDPE

The new Rural Development Programme for England includes provision of funding for Leader applications;  this is a bottom-up approach that aims to engage rural communities and businesses (including farmers and foresters) in finding solutions to local issues. Leader provides an excellent opportunity for rural communities to receive targeted funding for their area and to take responsibility for delivering benefits that will improve the quality of life.   The Leader approach is explained in more detail in the attached guidance notes.

In the South East we have now agreed the timetable for Leader applications. There will be an informal expression of interest process which will run from the 2nd April to 1st June,  followed by a formal application window which will run from the 1st July 2007 to the 15th October. To help explain the Leader approach and to give you an opportunity to ask questions we are holding a series of events across the region. Anyone planning to make a Leader application is advised to attend one of these events;
