Kent Food, Farming and Landscape Award

The deadline for the Kent Food, Farming and Landscape Award is midnight on January 3, 2012.

The purpose of the Kent Food, Farming and Landscape Award is to recognise exemplary achievements where a food producer or farmer makes a real contribution to the conservation and enhancement of Kent's fine landscape.

The Kent Downs AONB and the Taste of Kent Awards recognise the important contribution that farmers and food producers make to the quality of our landscape. The purpose of this award is to celebrate best practice. The sort of  thing we are thinking about is:

• A livestock farmer who is enhancing the landscape
• An arable farmer in HLS or LEAF audited and is going the extra mile to care for the countryside
• A fruit farmer who has areas for wildlife and landscape conservation
• A juice producer who has the LEAF marque and links landscape conservation with their product
• Farm Diversification – a local producer who has diversified their business in a way which supports the landscape.

Applications are welcomed from across Kent. For more information about the Kent Downs AONB Unit, visit: www.kentdowns.org.uk .

The Kent Downs AONB is a nationally protected landscape; it covers about a quarter of Kent including the North Downs and areas of the Greensand Ridge and Romney Marsh. The Kent Downs landscape is characterised by chalk hills, secluded valleys and a dramatic scarp with stunning views. A closer look uncovers a wealth of distinctive villages, narrow hedge-bound lanes and areas of chalk grassland, woodland and open farmland all waiting to be explored.  The Kent Downs AONB Unit works in partnership with other organisations and local people to conserve and enhance the landscape of the Kent Downs AONB.

Some questions are provided which you need to answer to help you meet the criteria, however if you want to talk to someone about the award, your application, or generally for more information please contact Nick Johannsen on 01303 815170 or email mail@kentdowns.org.uk. Entries will be collected and analysed by the Kent Downs AONB food, Farming and Landscape Panel and we may well contact you to have a chat about your application or to arrange a visit to your business during the judging process. The judge's decision is final.

Entry forms can be emailed to the address above. However, if supporting documents cannot be emailed, please post them to:

Kent Downs AONB Unit, West Barn, Penstock Hall Farm, Canterbury Road, East Brabourne, Ashford, Kent TN25 5LL.
