Great Tew wins Bledisloe Gold MedalThe Great Tew Estate in Oxfordshire has been awarded the 2008 Bledisloe Gold Medal by the judges of the Royal Agricultural Society of England. Since the prestigious award was inaugurated in 1958, there have only been 35 winners and in each instance the chosen Estate has had to show the highest standards in modern, integrated and imaginative estate management. Indeed, the previous winners read like a who's who of the quintessential English estates.
Commenting on the Great Tew Estate, the judges awarded the medal 'in recognition of the huge and ongoing improvements that have been achieved at Great Tew'.
Great Tew Estate is owned by the Johnston family and managed by James and Nicholas Johnston. The Estate runs to 1,618 hectares and is highly diversified.
To mark the significance of the award, and its fiftieth anniversary, the Royal Agricultural Society hosted a reception at the Royal Show, attended by HRH The Prince and Princess of Wales, for all the winners of the Bledisloe Gold Medal. |
