Better broadband for Kent

Make Kent Quicker is a £43m project to bring faster broadband speeds to Kent.

Spending £43m on an upgrade will transform the broadband network in Kent and Medway.

To make it happen, people need to say they want it, according to the organisers. Before broadband providers will invest in improving the network, they need evidence that this is something the people of Kent want to see.

By bringing together public funding and provider investment, at least 90% of Kent's properties can get superfast broadband services by 2015, and the remaining 10% have basic access of at least 2mb. The £10m that Kent County Council is investing in this upgrade has been matched by £9.87 million from the government.

Kevin Lynes, KCC Cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: "I want to encourage anyone who does not have broadband, or who wants better broadband, to register with us and say they want better broadband.

"This is a great ambition for the whole of the county and it is one that we can achieve if broadband providers can be persuaded to invest. That is the final piece in the jigsaw – and it means we have to be able to demonstrate the demand for better broadband. The greater the demand, the more broadband providers will be prepared to invest in Kent.
 
"To help show those providers the demand there is in the county, KCC has launched the Make Kent Quicker campaign.

"It only takes five minutes to register your demand and it could make a great difference, so please register now and encourage your neighbours to get involved as well."
