TUESDAY 9TH MARCH 2010
Commencing with lunch at 12.30 pm
In December's CLA regional magazine is an article on an enterprising lady called Rosemary Johnson, whose twin ambitions are to add value to local fleeces and also to promote the traditional crafts of hand knitting, patchwork and weaving which are in danger of dying out.
As a change from our usual hotpot supper and speaker we have arranged lunch at the Inn at Whitewell, after which Rosemary will explain how she intends to achieve her aims and demonstrate the wide variety of ways in which yarn and craft can combine. There will be a display of wools, knitted garments and patchwork throws and quilts (made from woollen fabrics rather than the conventional cottons) and a fashion show of some of her designs. You will also be able to buy some items on the day. Local schools have been invited to take part, and we hope that at least one of the wool producers will be present.
The two course lunch will take place in the main dining room at the Inn, with its splendid views up the valley. Members are of course welcome to arrive earlier to enjoy a pre-lunch drink in the bar and, if the weather is good, may enjoy one of the many delightful walks in the area before setting off for home.
We feel sure that this event will be of interest to members who might like to consider adding value to their fleeces, have an interest in wool crafts (Rosemary might even recruit some hand knitters!) or just fancy a meal out in pleasant surroundings.
