As the only organisation in England and Wales whose sole objective is to safeguard the interests of private landowners and rural businesses, we have two main functions - to exert political pressure and to provide the best advice and services for our members.
CLA's North East members are currently served by Director North East Angus Collingwood-Cameron, based at the North East office near Alnwick, supported by a team of professionals based in the North regional office, headed by Douglas Chalmers, Regional Director North.
We are here to help local members on a variety of topics including diversification, grants, rights of way, planning issues and dealing with bureaucracy. Responding to demand from members, we have recently launched a specialised Equine Team, based in the North office. Helen, Carole and Sarah are available to help with all aspects of equine diversification.
With the regionalisation of policy formulation, implementation and budgets, CLA staff and members sit on many bodies throughout the North East and respond in depth to consultations and on all rural issues. These bodies include:
North East Rural Affairs Forum
Sustainable Farming & Food Strategy Steering Group
Biomass Implementation Group
Biodiversity Action Plan Steering Group
Northumberland Local Access Forum
Durham Local Access Forum
Northumbrian Coastal Authorities Group
Northumberland Planning Forum
North East AONB Partnership
North East Historic Environment Forum
North East Red Meat Forum
Hadrian's Wall WHS Management Plan Committee
Northumberland Fire Group
Northumbria River Basin Water Framework Directive
Tweed/Till Water Framework Directive Advisory Group
Till Catchment Sensitive Farming Steering Group
We also organise a series of events, both technical and social, through out the region. Recent events have covered subjects such as the CRoW Act, equine diversification and the Single Farm Payment. If you have a problem or would like advice, simply contact the regional office - the sooner you call, the sooner we may be able to help you.
