Which goes on top, cream or jam?An initiative to showcase some of the best of British produce around is being backed by rural watchdog, CLA West Midlands.
Farming charity, the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI), will be holding its first Cream Tea Week between 27th August and 3rd September.
RABI's Milly Wastie said: "As well as being part of our on-going 150th anniversary celebrations, National Cream Tea Week will be an excellent opportunity to show off some of the best local produce. There are already plans for events in many parts of the country and, with the interest being expressed by individuals and organisations, I am confident that it will be celebrated across the West Midlands."
CLA regional spokesman Tim Barnes-Clay said: "This initiative ties in with the CLA's Just Ask campaign, which encourages children to 'just ask' about where the food on their plate actually comes from.
"What's great about Cream Tea Week is that people are going to learn about the importance of local food while having a bit of fun. They'll be asked to take part in the 'great scone debate' where they'll be quizzed on the ultimate cream tea question: 'which goes on top, the cream or the jam?'."
Milly added: "We are delighted to have the support of top Cornish cream producer Rodda's and the internationally renowned jam makers Tiptree for what we hope will become an annual celebration of a traditional summer treat."
As well as taking part in the great scone debate, organisers of events will also have two chances to win food hampers.
