Herefordshire’s Dairy House on TVA CLA member is behind a one off documentary shown earlier this week on BBC One. Herefordshire luxury dairy produce company, The Dairy House, spent a week training up an ex-city worker for Can You Bank On Me? – a one off fly-on-the-wall documentary (BBC One, 9pm, Monday 24 August) where two ex-bankers worked for a week with businesses that have been on the receiving end of the recession. 28 year-old Amit, a former Senior Analyst for a large bank, was given a crash course in every aspect of the The Dairy House from milking the company's herd of Jersey cows at the crack of dawn to making and delivering the organic yoghurt, cheesecakes, cream, butter and cheese to some of the company's outlets across the country. He also put together a pitch for investors, as the company needs to invest in upgrading its equipment. Dairy House spokesman Chris Smith said: "As a whole, the food industry has remained unaffected by the recession although organic food sales have slowed as shoppers "trade down" and look for cheaper products. The Dairy House, however, refuses to become another statistic and is constantly adding more shops, cafes, restaurants and canteens to its list of customers." CLA West Midlands director Caroline Bedell said: "The Dairy House is a wonderful example of a successful rural business that produces local food and drink. "However, Government must throw its weight behind British farmers and growers and support local food and the UK farming industry more. The CLA believes public bodies must be given incentives to source food locally so that customers of the public sector are able to enjoy high quality local produce at a reasonable price." |
