Wedding venue set to revitalise local rural economy A dream to open an exclusive wedding venue in the Leicestershire and Warwickshire countryside has taken its first step towards become a reality for two young entrepreneurs.
Planning permission has been granted to turn farm buildings into a high end wedding location at the couple's corporate entertainment business - Garlands Off Road and Corporate Leisure - near Atherstone in spring 2012. Joe and Joanna Garland, who are members of the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), specialise in team building, corporate activity events, parties and motor sports at Mythe Farm in Sheepy Magna. Joe, 32 and Joanna, 30 say their vision to create a successful rural company has taken years to come to fruition; "I come from a farming family but we wanted to diversify, which we have done successfully. Now we are looking to the CLA for advice on further developing the business," said Joe. Joe and Joanna Garland are convinced their existing concern, combined with the new wedding venture will play its part in helping the local rural economy, regardless of the recession. "The CLA has been calling for more of a balance to the rural economy by bringing in better paid jobs – and this is exactly what we aim to do with our wedding venue project. Hopefully it will bring in revenue to the counties of Leicestershire and Warwickshire, which is great news in this economic climate," added Joanna. CLA Midlands spokesman Tim Barnes-Clay said: "This boost for our countryside comes as confidence in the rural economy appears to be greater than in the economy as a whole. The CLA recently surveyed 100 rural business members across England and Wales and we found that only five percent had no confidence in the rural economy over the next few months - compared to 42 percent with the economy in general." The rural membership organisation also discovered that although more than three-fifths - 61 percent - said they were "not very confident" in the rural economy, half of those polled (50 percent) still expected their firms to be able to perform according to their business plans. |
