John O'Groats to Lands End for CLA Committee Member. All in a good cause (two actually)

Warwickshire committee member David Lodder is to raise funds for the Heart of England Community Foundation and Mencap by cycling from John O'Groats to Lands End. Here he explains why, and how you can help these two worthy causes.

There are some things in life such as the London Marathon which have "just got to be done".

The 1000 mile trip from John O'Groats to Lands End using your own steam is one of those things.  So I've decided to bike it before I'm too old to be able to do such things.

I am also doing it to celebrate 110 years of Lodders at Lodders - my grandfather, G F Lodder, joined the Henley in Arden firm of Couchman and Christophers in 1902.

I'm doing it alone and am planning to do it in two stages to fit in with work commitments, and energy levels.

I plan to start Stage 1 on 28th April from John O'Groats and keep going till about 7th or 8th May.

I will start Stage 2 on 22nd September from where I left off and keep going till I reach Lands End.

You will note that there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the programme!

I shall be doing this trip unsupported and plan to bivouac if necessary otherwise use bed & breakfasts establishments.

I will be supporting 2 charities with the money I am hoping to raise. My target is £10,000!

The first is The Heart of England Community Foundation.  This is the firm's chosen charity we have been supporting for the past 2 years. This charity aims to sustain the local community by providing grants to groups and projects which are usually volunteer led. Without charitable support the projects we are continuing to maintain, would not survive in the future. This would have a detrimental impact, not only to those who are directly benefiting, but also to the community ethos as a whole.

Mencap. This is a well-established organisation which aims to assist people with learning disabilities and provides respite for their carers and families. The money raised would be used in part, to allow Mencap to continue advising and supporting those with special needs throughout their entire lives. Mencap's work is membership driven and relies heavily on charitable funding.

I'm sure you will agree that these are both extremely worthy causes. To donate please go to http://tinyurl.com/cbglrns

If you would like to follow my progress, keep a look out for my blog which will be on the firm's website http://tinyurl.com/6vt4r54

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

David Lodder
