Consequently, existing news releases from the East Midlands are now only available on this website as archived articles.

Members based in Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire are now part of CLA East and should go to CLA East News for releases in their region.

And members in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland are now part of the Midlands and should go to Midlands News for releases in their region.

Forest run will help boost rural economy, says CLA

Forest run will help boost rural economy, says CLA The first National Forest 10K run is to take place on Sunday September 19 and runners are being encouraged to stay over during the race weekend so they can also enjoy a mini-break in the forest.

Conkers Camping and Caravanning Club Site is next door to Conkers, the visitor attraction where the 10K run will start, but if runners prefer a bit of luxury, Upper Rectory Farm Cottages in nearby Appleby Magna have self-catering cottages available. The luxury cottages are set in the heart of the countryside and make a great central base to visit Twycross Zoo and other local attractions.

The National Forest 10K run will set off from Conkers at 10:15am. Race Director Alistair Chambers from Ivanhoe Runners said: "It is a brilliant route, taking in almost every feature you can think of. It should also be a quick course with the potential for very fast times!"

Rural advocate body, the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), has shown its support for the initiative.

CLA East Midlands director, Helen Woolley, said: "The countryside is one of our region's most valuable assets and something to be enjoyed by all. The CLA wants to make sure that rural areas such as the National Forest will continue to be places where people want to live, work and enjoy leisure.

"For this to happen we need those areas to have strong local businesses and facilities like Conkers and Upper Rectory Farm Cottages, which can help encourage tourism, sustain vibrant communities and nurture a high-quality rural environment."

Entries for the 10K must be made in advance. Applications forms are available from the National Forest Company website www.visitnationalforest.co.uk as well as from the running clubs: Hermitage Harriers – www.hermitageharriers.co.uk; Ivanhoe Runners – www.ivanhoerunners.co.uk and South Derbyshire Road Runners– www.sdrr.co.uk
