Help get better broadband for LincolnshireA rural business organisation is supporting a move to get everyone in Lincolnshire a quick internet connection. The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) says the county could soon see superfast broadband rolled out, but businesses and individuals need to show their support before this can happen. Farmers and rural businesses in particular are being asked to give up just five minutes of their time by registering with www.onlincolnshire.org as part of a County Council initiative to take advantage of £14.3 million of funding allocated to Lincolnshire by the Government. The Conservative-led coalition believes the money will benefit many rural enterprises and properties that currently have poor broadband services. CLA East director Nicola Currie said: "Broadband providers need to be enticed to bid for the provision of services in these hard to reach areas. If they cannot see enough potential users to provide a return on their investment they are less likely to tender. For that reason demand registration is key to the Lincolnshire Broadband project. "We need everyone who uses broadband to go online now and register. You will not be committing yourself to a specific provider, just recording the fact that you need broadband, be it to run your business, to help with your children's home work or for your local community." The www.onlincolnshire.org website also give tips for community projects and helps with jargon busting as well as providing case studies. Mrs Currie added: "CLA research shows that high speed broadband is essential not only for business but for education and re-training as well as helping communities and, in the future, providing better healthcare. Studies indicate that a child without access to the internet is likely to drop 10 points in their GCSEs. Rural house prices and the ability to let rural office space are also directly affected by broadband speeds." |
