Charitable Trust - Fundraising

The Trust is constantly looking for ways in which it can directly increase its income but it is, at the same time, still dependent upon the generosity of CLA members and friends who have traditionally given their support.

Please note that cheques or any other payments should be made to “CLA Charitable Trust”.

Here are some of the ways in which you can contribute towards the excellent work undertaken by the Trust:

CLA Regional Events

CLA regional offices organise events throughout the year and donate a share of the profit to the Trust. Apart from being most enjoyable events to attend, you can help the Trust by your presence.

CLA Member Fundraising

Members and staff continue to be generous of their time and energy on behalf of the Trust and the Trustees are always eager to hear from anyone who wishes to undertake or host a fundraising event.

In July 2006 Chris Murray, Acting CLA Director General, raised a splendid £2100 after walking an impressive twenty eight miles through the wilds of the Derbyshire Peak District and in September 2005 Cheshire Chairman Diana McConnell contributed a magnificent £1,500 as the result of walking Offa’s Dyke.

During June and July 2004, Northumberland member, Charles Beaumont, together with his sons Ed and Harry, rode some 20 miles in every county of England and Wales. The gallant team rode in all sorts of weather and through all types of landscape, some of it very challenging, and were joined in each county by members and friends. The Bicycle Ride was the fundraising highlight of 2004 and raised more than £33,000, an outstanding contribution to the Trust.

Donations and Covenants

This is an effective way of supporting the Trust as we can use our charity status to recover tax which would be payable. We encourage CLA members to visit projects in their county which have benefited from a grant from the Trust, to see how much difference our funding can make to the lives of many.

CLA Credit Card

The Trust also receives a donation from the use of the CLA credit card which is issued by MBNA. To apply for the card please call 0800 028 2440.

CLA Game Fair Bucket Collection

Each year a bucket collection is organised at the exits with volunteers from the Trust and one or two other charities. In return for their willing and energetic help, the associated charities receive a percentage of the donations. Remember, your loose change can really make a difference.

Christmas Cards

Each year the Trust promotes a selection of Christmas cards of high quality, all of which have a theme which is appropriate to the countryside. The contribution from the sale of these cards is an important income source for the Trust. Please support your own charity by sending at least some cards which will benefit our fund. Leaflets are circulated to members via the September edition of Country Landowner and Rural Business magazine.

Bequests

Many people use their Will to benefit those interests which have given them most pleasure in life and there is no better way of helping others less fortunate to enjoy the countryside than by making a bequest to the CLA Charitable Trust.

We welcome all donations, however small, and every £1 you leave The Trust will go directly towards grants to those less fortunate, ensuring that your legacy makes a real difference to many of the small projects which apply to us for help.

There are two main forms of legacy: Pecuniary – when you give a specific cash sum which you state in your Will – and Residuary – when you give the residue or a share of your estate after all other bequests, taxes and expenses are paid.

Please speak to your solicitor when you next amend your Will. Thank you.
